As we selflessly turn our hearts toward others by displaying our kindness and our love, we open the door for a special blessing. In this blog let’s look at: what is service, how does money weave itself into the fabric of service, how does giving imply service, how can we be of more service, and what are the benefits of service.
What is service? The dictionary describes service “The action of helping or doing work for someone. It is giving a helping hand to someone in need, showing kindness, a good turn, a valuable action, deed, or effort performed to satisfy or fulfill a demand.” The law of success also is service.
Next let’s look at how does money weave itself into the fabric of service. Basically, it opens the door to the arteries of commerce. Money weaves itself into the entire fabric of our very existence. It engages the best thought of the best minds. It in turn is built on integrity and justice. It is the receptive attitude and is the source of all service projects. Without a certain amount of money service can not be materialized. For example, you can’t help build houses in Florida after the hurricane destroyed so many without some money, which buys the supplies for the people to do the service of building new houses. Money is therefore of no value except to bring about the conditions which we desire, and these conditions are harmonious. The way we make money to help others is to apply insight, utilize the opportunities, be aware of favorable conditions, and keep the channels open for the distribution of wealth. If we recognize the Omnipotent Power, which is the source of all supply, and adjust our consciousness to this supply, we will discover our money needs will be met.
How does giving imply service? Giving implies service by the following illustrations: the banker gives his money, the merchant gives his goods, the author gives his thoughts, the workman gives his skills. All have something to give, but the more they can give the more they get which enables them to give. Our greatest success comes as we recognize that it is just as essential to give as to get.
Now let’s look at how we can be of more service? We can be of more service by keeping an open mind, constantly reaching out for new junctures, recognizing opportunity, being interested in the race rather than the goal, and the pursuit rather than the possession.
Lastly, what are the benefits of the service. First when you participate in the service, whatever it might be, the service needs to be enjoyable to the receiver and the giver. You can see them light up and experience an excitement through their entire body. The receiver is appreciative of your efforts. Second by doing the service, you get a chance to know other people and even might in time develop a life long friend. Third, by modeling to your family a servant’s heart they acquire skills in kindness & see the importance of helping others. Also, future generations can be impacted by your service. Fourth, you become the frontline observer of the everyday miracles of life and grace that overflows and changes people.
I hope as you’ve read this blog that you’ve seen the blessings of service and how important it is in perpetuating our future world. As Dieter F. Uchtdorf expressed it in his quote “As we lose ourselves in the services of others, we discover our own lives and our own happiness.” So, take a deep breath, step out of your own comfort zone, and experience the blessings of service.
